Top Tips for Summer

We hope everyone who is on their summer break is having a lovely time so far. We thought this would be an ideal time to share some top tips for the holidays, such as free activities you can get involved in to managing screen time.

Free Activities:

  • Ball games
Gather your friends and see what games you can come up with - this could be ball games (kerby is an old favourite of ours), imagination based games or simply who can run the fastest!

  • Make a duvet fort
We all know the British weather can be quite unpredictable, so for those rainy days perhaps build a fort with cushions and duvets. Not only is this fun, but it can encourage roleplay games with siblings and friends and even provide a place to hide and have some tasty snacks!

  • Have a picnic
Arrange a picnic in the garden, at the park or wherever you find relaxing! Gather those tasty (and healthy) treats out of the cupboard and share an afternoon with family, friends and even your pets!

  • Visit a local museum
The UK is bursting with museums, architecture, national forests and all things wildlife. Museums are a great (free) day out and not only showcase some fascinating finds, but can provide an educational day out too.

Managing screen time:

It’s inevitable that everyone will enjoy some screen time (particularly on those rainy days), but it’s also important to stay safe online.

  • Try a timed trial
Many devices have features to set time limits for use. Agree a suitable amount of time to enjoy and then put devices away.

  • Lead by example
It’s a great idea if all the family can take part in reduced screen time. Family meal times are a great way to get talking and have each other’s full attention.

  • Agree ‘Tech-free’ Zones
Making family meal areas a phone-free zone is an easy way to start.

  • No screens at least an hour before bedtime

The BBC also has some great information and tips about how to help manage screen time in the home:

There’s plenty do this summer and we hope you all have lots of fun when you can!
